MEDIA RELEASE: NXT TEC. primed to enter European market with Patent grant for NXT Spacedeck

Perth, Western Australia: NXT TEC. Ltd (NXT TEC.), an innovative Australian building technology company, is pleased to announce the grant of a patent by the European Patent Office (EPO) for the NXT™ Spacedeck™ prefabricated floor system technology.

HIGHLIGHTS

  • NXT™ Spacedeck™ is a prefabricated floor system that optimises energy consumption and speeds up build time for high-rise buildings whilst reducing material requirements.

  • European Patent Office has accepted and granted a patent in respect of this technology, opening a significant new commercialisation pathway for NXT TEC.

  • Patent covers 38 Member States of the European Patent Organisation (EPO), including some of the largest and most sophisticated construction markets in the world.

The NXT™ Spacedeck™ is a high quality prefinished concrete floor system for high-rise buildings that incorporates large, hollow balls (void formers) between reinforced steel mesh, providing a high strength-to-weight ratio and reducing the volume of concrete required by up to 25 per cent whilst maintaining high structural integrity.

The NXT™ Spacedeck™ is entirely manufactured offsite as a complete unit and brought to site for assembly. There is no in situ concrete pouring or curing, and no scaffolding or propping required. This results in no wastage of excess materials and delivers significant time, cost, quality and environmental benefits when compared with traditional construction methods.

The patent opens up NXT TEC. to significant new commercialisation opportunities in the European market, with 38 Member States of the EPO, including some of the largest and most sophisticated construction markets in the world.

The manufacturing and assembly of the NXT™ Spacedeck™ occurs in the country where the relevant project is based. This innovative approach to technology implementation ensures compliance with local building standards, quality and timeliness of project delivery outcomes, and creates jobs and boosts local economies in target markets.

An Australian innovation patent for the NXT™ Spacedeck™ was granted in September 2019.

Design registrations have also been granted for the void former component of the NXT™ Spacedeck™ in Europe as well as Australia, New Zealand, the United States, Singapore, Hong Kong, Japan, Malaysia and China.

NXT TEC.’s Chairman and Managing Director, Natasha Di Ciano, said:

“The European market for building products is highly developed, mature and competitive, and this is where prefabricated building technologies originated.

“The fact that a Western Australian company has been granted this patent in Europe is a testament to the novelty of the NXT™ Building System technologies, and reinforces the long-term commercial value of NXT TEC.’s pipeline.

“We are proud to be strengthening our patent portfolio of Australian building technologies on a global scale and are excited by the opportunities and potential that our entry into the European market holds.”

The expiry date for the European patent (European Patent No. 3129563) for the NXT™ Spacedeck™ is 30 April 2035.
