MEDIA RELEASE: NXT TEC. and Noongar Mia Mia deliver essential housing using NXT TEC.'s technology

  • NXT TEC. is collaborating with Noongar Mia Mia to deliver an 11 Unit Aboriginal Elders Residential Complex in Woodbridge.

  • The Woodbridge Project will see NXT TEC. construct the Residential Complex using its innovative NXT™ Building System.

  • The project will utilise 100% Western Australian labour and suppliers and will raise the bar for sustainable building standards.

2 November 2023 – NXT TEC., a leader in precast building technology, is collaborating with Noongar Mia Mia, Western Australia's premier Aboriginal-owned community housing provider, to revolutionise housing for Aboriginal Elders and their carers in Woodbridge, Western Australia.

This groundbreaking initiative is set for completion in under nine months due to NXT TEC.’s technology and will provide secure, quality housing for Aboriginal Elders who would otherwise not have access to culturally safe housing.

The Woodbridge Project with NXT TEC. forms a critical part of Noongar Mia Mia’s mission to provide homes for Aboriginal Elders to reduce financial and housing stress, improve quality of life, wellbeing and health, and recognise contributions to community.

Natasha Di Ciano, Chairman and Managing Director at NXT TEC. commented: “Developing high-quality, affordable and sustainable housing for those who need it the most is closely aligned to our founding ethos as a company. We are delighted to be working closely together with Noongar Mia Mia to deliver this much-needed housing project. As a Western Australian-based company, we are passionate about Noongar Mia Mia’s mission, and are pleased to have been selected to make a vital contribution to enable this project to be delivered through our unique building technology solution.”

Using NXT TEC.’s innovative NXT™ Building System, the project will utilise 100% Western Australian labour and suppliers and will raise the bar for sustainable building standards. The residential complex will be built to a NatHERS 7-Star Energy Rating, and includes solar panels on the roof, which lowers utilities and operating costs.

Tina Ugle, Managing Director at Noongar Mia Mia, added: “The facts speak for themselves. Aboriginal people in Western Australia are 13 times more likely to experience homelessness than non-Aboriginal Australians, and 33% of all Aboriginal Western Australians aged 50 and over have reported that they have been removed from their families at some time.”

“This project recognises the lifetime of contribution Aboriginal Elders have made to their community, and partnering with NXT TEC. means that we can build quality accommodation, significantly faster than conventional construction, which enables secure housing for community members”, continued Tina Ugle.

The project was made possible through the generous support of Sisters of St John of God and a donation from the Estate of Sonya Rodgers.

Following the sale of the project land from DevelopmentWA to Noongar Mia Mia and subject to planning approvals, the Woodbridge Project is set to commence in early 2024. The project will create up to 40 direct jobs during construction.

About NXT TEC.

NXT TEC. Ltd (NXT TEC.) is an Australian building technology company with a focus on scalable residential projects to improve housing accessibility for those who need it most. NXT TEC.’s patented technologies revolutionise the way in which residential projects are designed and executed by using its prefabricated assembly system based on simple structural elements from foundation to complete build.

These technologies, collectively known as the NXT™ Building System, provide a complete turnkey solution enabling faster, greener, affordable, high-quality builds of large scale housing projects. Unlike conventional construction, the NXT™ Building System is designed, engineered and manufactured with a high degree of precision before any construction commences onsite.

The NXT™ Building System improves all-round efficiency by simplifying, standardising and managing the process from design to manufacture to assembly, whilst ensuring all local compliance standards are met. The technologies then lock together on-site, significantly improving site safety and efficiency.  All residential houses built using the NXT™ Building System receive a NatHERS 7-Star energy rating.
